Where in the world will we go today?
This is our big question.
Every Friday after morning tea we line up with a passport ready to go on an adventure.
First we arrived in Antarctica.
Our classroom was very cold and we learnt that Antarctica is in the South Pole. It is a continent all on its own. Nobody lives in Antarctica. Scientists, explorers and tourists go there to stay and lots of penguins live there.
Did you know that polar bears DO NOT live in Antarctica, they live in the Arctic which is the North Pole.
Check out Waipuna's Antarctica slide presentation.
Next we visited Egypt.
We found out that Egypt is in the continent of Africa. Most of Egypt is desert and it gets very hot. The River Nile is very important to the Egyptian people because they get their water from it. We learnt about camels, pyramids and mummies. We even wrote our names using hieroglyphics and learnt to speak some Arabic.

Japan: Here we come!
While visiting Japan we learnt that school children have their lunch in the classroom every day. It is usually fish, soup and some sort of seaweed. They bow before they eat and at the end of the day all of the children clean the school. They are very serious learners!
Jane Lyttle bought in some Japanese treasures to share with us. We had a turn with some chopsticks and even ate dried seaweed.
The Japanese people celebrate Children's Day every year on May 15th. All of the children make koi kites on this day and fly them. We made koi kites to hang in our classroom.
